Einsteinium: Funding science with cryptocurrency

Einsteinum, or EMC2 is a new altcoin announced earlier this month.  It’s a scrypt based coin with with no pre-mine and common features like the KGW, but it also has a purpose behind it.  2% of all block rewards go to support the Einsteinium Fund, a foundation setup to support cutting edge scientific research.

In addition to supporting research, Einsteinium is not just another scrypt clone.  The reward structure within the algorithm contains two unique features:

Epochs:  The mining of Einsteinium is divided into Epochs, each Epoch is 36000 blocks long and is targeted to last 25 days.  The Proof of Work mining of Einsteinium will last 730 Epochs.

Wormhole Events:  During every Epoch from the start of mining through to Year 10 a random Wormhole Event will occur.   A Wormhole Event is 180 blocks long with a reward of 2973 Einsteinium per block.   This is a fixed value reward irrespective of the current block reward and replaces the standard reward for that block.   A Wormhole Event is randomly generated and can start at any time during an Epoch, but will ALWAYS be 180 blocks long.

Einsteinium will certainly be a coin to watch in the upcoming weeks as it gets listed on more exchanges.  Any coin that supports a noble cause deserves to be looked at closely, especially one with unique features like EMC2 has.
