Project Worldshield aiming to increase security of Worldcoin

The Worldcoin Alliance has announced “major network upgrades” before the end of the month, many of which aim to increase the security of the coin by way of “Project Worldshield”.

Unfortunately, specific details on what Project Worldshield will add to Worldcoin are few and far between at this time — although we do know that it will introduce super seed nodes, automatic checkpointing and a new difficulty algorithm. Possibly one that’s based upon Digishield, but that’s pure speculation on my part based upon the name “Worldshield”.

Worldcoin Alliance member Pavel Dolzhenko explains the reasons behind the changes in a press release:

Numerous hardware manufacturers are currently developing ASIC miners for Scrypt-based crypto-currencies at high pace. Once these processing units are available, many—mostly new—crypto-currencies will be swept away because they lack proper protection mechanisms. Worldshield will not only prevent multipool abuse, 51% attacks, and other ASIC-generated disruptions, but it will also allow modifications to handle new threats as quickly as possib

On top of these security-based changes, the announcement also states that a Worldcoin Android wallet will be released “shortly” after these changes have been implemented.
